Leather Leadership Conference XIVDetroit, MI – My boy Derek da Silva and I are in Detroit, MI this weekend for the Leather Leadership Conference (LLC). The Leather Leadership Conference is an organization dedicated to strengthening the BDSM/Leather/Fetish/Kink community by providing the stepping stones of learning and knowledge to assist in the development of the leadership skills of community members. Their goal is to aid in the growth and success of organizations and community groups through the development of these skills by providing access to leadership information and topics. By strengthening the leaders in our community they hope to facilitate a greater sense of connection between and within community groups. Derek and I are here this year to facilitate a presentation and guided discussion entitled Building Communities that Feed Your Soul.

Building Communities that Feed Your Soul is a presentation and guided discussion on building relationships, leather families, extended families and community organizations that fit personal needs and the needs of our communities. While we recognize that it is easiest to follow examples, many social traditions, even many leather traditions, don’t match everyone’s needs. Rather than assume a golden age that must be reclaimed or a Utopian future that might never be reached, our focus is on how we can learn from the past, and build for the future while still creating something that fulfills our present needs. In this class we will be discussing how to identify those needs and the steps you can take to create social units that fulfill those needs. This is an interactive lecture style class, and participants are encouraged to share their own personal experiences.

Building Communities that Feed Your Soul will be presented twice during Leather Leadership Conference XIV: first on Saturday, April 10th from 1:30 pm to 2:45 pm in Concourse E; and again on Sunday, April 11th from 12:15 pm to 1:30 pm in Concourse D. If you are attending LLC XIV, we both hope you will join us for this discussion and share your experiences in an effort to explore new ways of looking at how we build a sense of community that actually fulfill our needs.
