BDSM: Safer Kinky SexPescadero, CA – While in Toronto last weekend, I met many wonderful people, but there are two in particular that stand out in my mind because of their efforts to educate BDSM players. After the Mr Rubber Toronto contest at the Black Eagle on Saturday night, I was introduced to and had long conversations with Duncan MacLachlan and Trevor Jacques. While I had heard of these gentlemen before that evening, I had not had a chance to speak with them before nor was I aware how their efforts, among several others with the BDSM Education Project, had taken form under the banner of the AIDS Committee of Toronto.

Over the weekend of the Church St Fetish Fair, the AIDS Committee of Toronto, BDSM Education Project released the new revised BDSM Safer Kinky Sex booklet. This beautifully produced booklet is the most comprehensive and up-to-date pamphlet of information pertaining to the risks associated with various forms of bondage and discipline, dominance and submission, and sadomasochism (BDSM) play, and the means to mitigate those risks, that I have seen to date.

The booklet contains sections on: BDSM Etiquette; BDSM Risk Reduction; Drugs and Alcohol; Sexual Health; HIV; Hepatitis C (HCV); Other STIs; The Rectum; The Penis; The Vagina; Lubricants; Condoms, Gloves and Dams; Toys; Cleaning Toys; Douching and Enemas; Rimming; Sucking, Blowing, Licking; Pinching; Temperature; Fisting; Watersports; Urethral Sounds; Restraints and Bondage; Percussion Play; Whipping; Blood Sports/Piercing; Safe Disposal of Syringes and Other Sharps; Branding and Scarification; Electricity; and Other Resources.

This is an amazing resource and, in my opinion, a must read for every player. For those of us who play on the edge and employ the RACK (Risk Aware Consensual Kink) philosophy to our play, fully understanding the risks associated with any activity becomes the foundation upon which we can formulate an informed decision regarding our consent. The BDSM Safer Kink Sex booklet is a remarkable resource toward that end and, I for one, greatly appreciate the efforts put in to its creation.

I highly recommend that you to download the pdf and read it for yourself. I also encourage you to help support the efforts behind the pamphlet by making a contribution to the AIDS Committee of Toronto. And, if you are interested in exploring the possibility of finding sponsorship to bring this resource to our local communities in physical form, please contact me directly by commenting to this post.
